Circularity & Packaging
Adopting a 3R Approach for your packaging
Adopting a 3R Approach for your packaging. European policies on circularity are accelerating the need for companies to define and implement a 3R strategy (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), particularly in their use of packaging for product distribution. This training offers a concrete and structured approach to understand the environmental, regulatory, and operational issues related to packaging, with the aim of identifying effective levers for transitioning to more sustainable packaging that meets stakeholder expectations and upcoming requirements.
Goals
- Explain the benefits of engaging in a 3R approach for packaging (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)
- Identify concrete levers to integrate the 3R logic into the choice of primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging
Program
BENEFITS OF ENGAGING IN A 3R APPROACH
- Acquire key data on environmental issues and the impacts linked to packaging use, via a formative quiz
- Decode the French and European regulatory framework (EPR - Extended Producer Responsibility, REACH, PPWR, Plastics Tax, Green claims), by building a regulatory kit to navigate legal requirements relevant to your company’s activity
- Explore the company’s ecosystem, good practices, and sectoral recommendations
MAJOR COMPONENTS OF A 3R APPROACH
- Case study of detergent or cosmetic packaging: • Simplified life-cycle analysis (plastic and cardboard)
- Identification of 3R levers: material reduction, substitution, reuse, recyclability, etc
- Development of an operational checklist of questions to ask when designing, selecting, and purchasing packaging
- Deep dive into the recyclability of packaging: understanding the barriers and opportunities
- Integrating certified recycled materials into packaging: GRS, EMTS, Ocean Bound Plastic, RecyClass, FSC, PEFC…
The advantages of the training
- Quiz on key data
- Practical and group work based on case studies
- Sharing of methodologies and operational resources
- Consolidation of best practices with the group
- Participants leave with summary sheets on existing certifications that help showcase packaging ecodesign efforts
Who is the training intended for?
