Life Cycle Assessment

For the textile or agri-food sector

In order to reduce the impacts inherent in its products, services or processes, it is important to first understand and measure them. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a standardised methodology that provides a comprehensive overview of the environmental performance of a product, service or process, using multiple indicators and covering multiple stages of the life cycle. We offer training courses with sessions tailored to either the textile or the agri-food sector.

Goals

  • Master the key issues and concepts of Life Cycle Assessment, the project process and its milestones
  • Identify the various environmental impact indicators, the importance of a multi-indicator approach and the definition of the functional unit
  • Use life cycle modelling software and analyse impact results

Program

CONSTRUCTION OF A SIMPLIFIED PRODUCT LIFE CYCLE

  • In the agri-food session: participants examine a case study concerning muesli
  • In the textile session: this is the case for a ‘zip-up jacket’, which is studied with the participants

TEARDOWN OF A REFERENCE PRODUCT AND COLLECTION OF BILL-OF-MATERIALS DATA

  • In the agri-food session: analysis of the recipe for the reference product, muesli, and its packaging; analysis of the stages in the life cycle from the field to the end of life of the packaging, including the consumption phase
  • In the textile session: analysis of the nomenclature of the zip-up jacket and its packaging, analysis of the stages in the life cycle from the manufacture of raw materials to the end of life, including the usage phase

MODELLING OF THE REFERENCE

  • Interpretation and analysis of results

The advantages of the training

  • Training based on collective intelligence
  • Alternating between demonstrative, interrogative and active methods, individually and in groups
  • Modelling of a product’s environmental impact prepared using the ECODESIGN STUDIO eco-design SAAS software, available free of charge
  • Summary and additional content sent to trainees at the end of the training course

Who is the training intended for?

  • Marketing, Product, Environment/Quality, R&D, CSR, and Production Managers
  • Designers
  • Design Engineers

Prerequisites

  • This training course does not require any specific prerequisites.

Evaluation methods

  • Pre-training self-assessment questionnaire and collection of expectations
  • Formative and summative assessments during and at the end of the training
  • Measurement of satisfaction and progress through a post-training self-assessment
  • Evaluation of the training’s impact two months later
